Myrtle Beach, SC Oceanfront Prepares for Irene

This morning I took a walk on the Boardwalk downtown to checkout  the ocean…It is always a joy to see the changes in the tides, the force of the waves and the clouds as they hover the water. It was actually very calm considering was is happening miles offshore.  The city officials were taking down the American flags that usually wave 24 hours a day and the lifeguards were raising the Caution Flags to alert swimmers or heavy currents and ‘under toe’ conditions. The new SkyWheel took the Gondolas down last night. The local weather folks are promising that Irene will pass way east of us and we will only have rain and winds gusting  up to 40plus mph…We are planning on that and in the meantime we are praying for our North Carolina friends and those we love up and down the north east coast.

When a storm that size has a target for your coastal town or beachfront community it is a sick feeling…We remember Hugo well!
