Myrtle Beach, SC Oceanfront Prepares for Irene

     This morning I took a walk on the Boardwalk downtown to checkout  the ocean…It is always a joy to see the changes in the tides, the force of the waves and the clouds as they hover the water. It was actually very calm considering was is happening miles offshore.  The city officials were taking down the American flags that usually wave 24 hours a day and the lifeguards were raising the Caution Flags to alert swimmers or heavy currents and ‘under toe’ conditions. The new SkyWheel took the Gondolas down last night. The local weather folks are promising that Irene will pass way east of us and we will only have rain and winds gusting  up to 40plus mph…We are planning on that and in the meantime we are praying for our North Carolina friends and those we love up and down the north east coast.

When a storm that size has a target for your coastal town or beachfront community it is a sick feeling…We remember Hugo well!

Beach, Boogie & BBQ Festival…a fun Myrtle Beach Event

Sample some of the best BBQ around at the Beach, Boogie & BBQ Festival this year at The Market Common. Friday night will feature an “anything goes” competition with $1 samples, a beer and wine garden and a wakeboarding demo on the lake. Saturday you can sample BBQ from over 60 local and regional teams and get a free boat ride. Meet the winner of Top Chef: All Star and guest barbeque judge, Richard Blais from 1-4pm. American Idol Season 2 contestant, Josh Gracin will headline the live entertainment Saturday starting at 8:00pm. Fireworks are set for 9:30 on Saturday night. Sunday features include a “Wing-off” Cooking Competition, Chicken Wing Eating Competition and a Watermelon Eating Contest for kids ages 5-15. The closing ceremony will be held on Sunday at 3pm.

Beach, Boogie & BBQ will be held Friday, September 2 from 5-9pm; Saturday,September 3 from 12-9:30pm and Sunday, September 4 from 12-5pm.

Myrtle Beach Area Entertainment …A Tribute to The Beatles

Here, There & Everywhere… A Tribute to The Beatles takes center stage at Brookgreen Gardens this summer for a special musical performance. Four amazing performers with resumes that include national tours and headlining shows will take the stage for three nights only. Dustin Brayley, Ryan Dunn, Ryan Guerra and Aaron LaVigne promise a show that you won’t soon forget. Space is limited and tickets are $20 for members and $25 for non-members. The 80th Anniversary Beatles Tribute Concert will be held August 19-21, 2011. Doors open at 6pm and the concerts begin at 7:30pm.
